The lost one
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

In The lost one I aimed to show a story about a bird that awoke up in a tree. The bird navigates its way through the Burleigh environment eventually making it to the lookout. He spots the beach and decides to go there to look for his friends. He gets there and finds his friends waiting for him.
I hope this story can get people to never give up if they have a purpose

Archer Leeds
Big motor
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

The ‘big motor’ was inspired by a boat motor smashed on the Burleigh rocks and I thought what if a crab was being hurt by it. I put the red crabs on the rocks - the motor stands out. The seagulls carry and remove the motor through different environments. I put a road to show that there was nature but now there is industrialisation, destroyed nature. The crabs and seagulls reach the creek where the kids start chasing the crabs showing carelessness of humans not realising how badly they impact the animals and environment. The awareness in my artwork was stylised. I want to express the need for a better environment not just at Burleigh heads but everywhere.

‘the journey’
Colored pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My artwork ‘the journey’ is showing 3 environments - the mangroves in the beginning then moving into the city and finishing at Burleigh Heads beach. ‘The journey’ is based on a toucan bird finding its way to the beach. I am showing the city in the background. He is happy at the end of the journey.

Welcome to the Submerged Circus
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

This is the story of the Burleigh mangroves fish circus - beloved and known only by aquatic creatures, came to be. We see two fish (Fin, the darker one and Gil the lighter one) finding an old piece of rubbish and both have an idea. They get help from Sergio the crab to hook the plastic bag onto a nearby branch, creating a circus tent. Then we gaze upon the popularity in its first days, spreading everywhere, even the ocean! The line for entry is long but so worth the wait. We get a glimpse of the most popular acts; the jumping act, strong fish and clown fish, still best sellers to this day.

Fishing pardise
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My work is about over fishing and way the ocean will treat us in the future. In this art work there is a fisherman who takes too much from the ocean, so one day the ocean gets really mad and causes a tsnaumi to happen. My moral -  is to be grateful for what you are given and not try be greedy.

Jack Josephson
Ambush
Colored pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My artwork ambush shows a day in the life of this bird in the Burleigh mangroves and how at anytime in this natural landscape anything can happen - being good and bad. The different frames of the artwork show different areas on the track of a bird following a crab back to its home to try finding more crabs. Once the bird found the crab's home, he went back and got friends so that they could eat all the crabs. The final frame shows the fight of the crabs trying to survive and to fend of the bigger creatures of the land.

Jay Spowart
Mangrove Jack
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

The Artwork ‘Mangrove Jack' is a short story that tells the reader how pollution is getting out of hand. Every day, thousands of fish eat rubbish or get stuck in nets, it’s not just the fish but the water too. In the artwork, the water progressively gets dirtier and dirtier causing Mangrove Jack to die and lose his scales. The misty dark brown and moldy green show the dirtiness of the water and the rubbish that goes with it. The mangroves have a brown texture that is almost like a claw reaching into the water.

Gigantic fish
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My art work represents many different things. The sun represents hope because it comes up everyday. The beach represents longevity because beaches can be as old as 500,000. In conclusion I want my artwork to represent whatever people think.

Michael Dunne-Johnson
Journey
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My work “Journey” is an artwork which shows the journey of a crab through his short life. I used bright colors in all the slides except the last one to emphasize emotions, as at the end of his story its pure darkness, hence the black themed slide. I tried to metaphorically show how life could be going smoothly and all of a  sudden a turn of choices can end up causing a terrible event.
As well as that, throughout the artwork, you can notice a plastic bag following the crab, which is what I tried to add to try and prevent pollution problems.

Sam Barker
The Great Hunt
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

This art work shows a lonely mullet swimming in the Tallebudgera mangroves. It is trying to find a safe place to hide and you can see why in the background. There's a predatory fish stalking it. This goes on for two of the scenes before the predator makes a move. They go into a aerial flight making for a dramatic scene ending with the mullet in it's mouth -  a victory for the predator.

Viliami Fifita
Crabs adventure
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

A crab found a thong floating on the stream. The crab thought this would be its best chance of escaping and may make it back to its home. However, lurking in the sky was a bird dying of hunger waiting for it prey. With the crab already on the thong, there was no turning back. Luckily, there is bridge down stream to prevent the bird from seeing him. The crab under the bridge, he saw his home which he quickly burrowed into, so he doesn’t get taken by the bird. Eventually making it to safety without getting swooped.

In my artwork I have shown how a crab and a water dragon met and went on their own little adventure to the beach to surf the amazing right hand point at
Burleigh Heads

Connor Nykiforuk
Comic Life
Ink pen on 200gsm cartridge paper

35 x 33cm

My artwork, that is called comic life, is an artwork in the form of a newspaper skit and shows the life of a mud crab and shows its' life to death.

Stephen Eardley
Change
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

In my artwork, ‘Change’ I am exploring the three environment from creek to ocean and have created the anthropomorphised iconic vegetation to relate the story. Each exists in their own environment though those environments are being encroached upon through mans’ interaction. This has caused pollution, scars on the environment (roads) and replaced nature with man-made structures. In the top frame the three have gathered and view northwards to the biggest visual scar – that of Surfers Paradise.
The fantasy world creates a stylized ideal inspired by a sense of place and shattered with the potential of reality.

Kyle Grassick
“Rapid Ant-zen Test”
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
March 2022
35x33cm

This piece at its basic level is my playful portrayal of one ant’s adventure through Tallebudgera Creek to reach his goal of a golden crisp only to culminate in an unfortunate end.
The intent of my imagery is to convey an interwoven narrative through a medium akin to a children’s picture book. The narrative is one that is all too familiar and relatable in today’s world. The single-minded pursuit of a ”golden” objective, obliviously passing by all of life’s wonders whilst at the same time playing little attention to the environmental degradation that is occurring around.
The final frame illustrates the impending doom that the ant and we are facing as a result of losing sight of the ultimate objective which for all of us should be, to survive.
Conservation of life requires conservation of our environment.

Oliver Harris
Swamped
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My intention with this story board was to show various different types of rubbish in close up.  I then wanted to zoom out and show how all these separate pieces of rubbish have collected and polluted the Australian mangrove swamps.  This issue will only become worse causing the death of wildlife and marine life like the dead fish on the beach.

Hayden Johnson
Hibian (seaside in Chinese)
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

In my storyboard narrative, I tried to implement the idea of what we are doing to the wildlife that surrounds us and shows the plants that we are killing. The story starts with the texture of the wood in the mangroves and then. Goes to show the pollution. The story then follows on to the animals that live in the trees and forest and then the view of the beach where you can see the animals on the sand.

Kilarney Lavender
Journey
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

In my artwork ‘journey’ I am exploring the three environment from the mangrove through to the beach and Tallebudgera and have used a snake to take a journey through the environment.  Going through the three environment the snake makes it through them all. In the last scene it is the snake finishing his journey.

Ryan MacMillan
Mangrove Life
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

This artwork (mangrove life) is a piece that is inspired by the area of Burleigh in the mangroves. It tells a story of a crab and a seagull. They both live amongst the mangroves and one day the seagull saw the crab. The seagull flew down to the crab and then ate it. This shows the life of the mangroves and what happens.

Ky Morris
the environment needs changing
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper A3
2022
35 x 33cm

The purpose of this artwork is to show how much rubbish there is in the Tangalooma area and how when we went on this walk all I saw was rubbish and I’m trying to fix that .

Craig Russell
With ‘n’ Without Rubbish
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

In my artwork, ‘With n Without Rubbish’ I am exploring how Burleigh mangroves look when rubbish takes over the natural beauty of the mangroves. Each image represents a stage in the storyboard, with viewers are able to compare and contrast how the environment looks before and after pollution affects. Man’s interaction with Earth has created the problem we all know today, pollution. This ongoing problem doesn’t just affect the beauty of our local environments, animals also are negatively affected by pollution killing millions of species every year. I gathered images of the mangroves located further down Tallebudgera River.
Pollution has left a visual scare on the looks of Tallie’s well know mangroves.

Cameron Sheather
“Pollution”
Coloured pencils on cartridge paper (2022)
30 x 50cm

“Pollution” visually manifests the basic idea of the society we live in today. Littering is a continuously growing issue, and It won’t stop unless we stop it. The ghastly clouds and litter in every portrait shows our world in a future time. Three out of the five frames are based in natural and pleasant environments whilst the other two display man made features and air pollution.

Jayden Sloan
A Piece of Rubbish
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm
‘A Piece of Rubbish’ is an artwork about how easy it is for rubbish to move and get lost in the world. Pollution is a massive problem the world has to face in how this artwork is representing this world-wide issue. The artworks flows in the different frames with the water bottle is showing the speed of impact, like rubbish has on the world. With the water bottle finishing off next to the bin, it is motivation for anyone viewing the artwork to clean up not only for themselves but other people's mess. The tone and artist features in this work play a big contribution towards its end result with the colours and outlining in pen.

Alex Walker
‘Tree of Life’
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
30 x 50cm
In my artwork ‘Tree of Life,’ the storyline explored is the idea that trees appear at first glance as solid objects but are actually full of life from all the creatures hidden within them. Each frame shows the different animals and insects in their natural habitat. This shows us all of the natural habitats of all the wildlife in Burleigh Heads.

Darcy Walker
Lost
Colored pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My work explores the unwanted relationship with pollution and the natural environment
With influence by two artistes Jon Mcnaught and Tony Edwards with the way that they state the problem or theme with their illustrations.
When I started this task, I was dwelling weather I should do this theme, pollution or something else, I chose this because pollution is a very serious issue in Australia, I chose the mangroves because the mangroves is a very significant natural shield for the coast protecting coast lines around the world.

Cody Townhill
Seagulls Journey
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My work was meant to convey how everything, and everyone is different, and that it is ok to have a bad day, because even when you having one something will come over and help you and themselves up, show by the tree growing on the bird. The bird only being shaded in white, and grey is meant to show the readers that is unique, and the main attention of the story.  Along with this, it is also highlighting how fishing with nets can be harmful and can even affect other animals not in the ocean, as shown how the bird got tangled up by the net from the crab. All in all this picture is used to show how humans interact, and that one person's bad day can be another's start of their comeuppance.

Max Pryse Lloyd
Corruption
Coloured pencil on 200gsm cartridge paper
2022
35 x 33cm

My artwork explains the troubles of pollution and how it is killing our environment, this I showing when the boy litters and a corrupted tree grows out of showing how pollution is killing our environment, as the slides go of the colour begins to fade displaying a theme of death.
